Bring me a sandwich

John Montagu the 4th Earl of Sandwich (1718-1792) was an esteemed British politician. He became Secretary of State and First Lord of the Admiralty.  The Earl was an avid gambler, apparently he gambled for hours and did not like to leave the gambling table to eat.  When served meat, he asked his servants to bring two pieces of bread so that he could place the meat in the middle and eat with his hands at the gambling table – hence the birth of the sandwich…

When I was at school history was boring, now I find it quite interesting… just think how common the word ’sandwich’ is now all over the world!!!

Its incredible… when you think about it.  And, who said gambling is boring, not full of historical moments and interesting characters?
